Restarting PrEP After COVID - What you should know.

Restarting PrEP

How do I get back on PrEP after taking a break during COVID?

We’ve been fielding a lot of questions from our clients about how to restart PrEP. Here’s the good news - it’s a straightforward process to get back on PrEP. We’ve made you a handy a list to help you get back on PrEP:

  1. It’s a good idea to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (two doses + booster) before starting PrEP and resuming in-person sexual activity. Book your vaccine appointment online.

  2. Has your insurance status changed? Get in touch with us and we’ll walk you through your options, check your co-pay amount, and help you apply for the Trillium Drug Plan if needed.

  3. Call your doctor about restarting PrEP and get a blood work requisition. They can usually email it to you. And, they’ll confirm your prescription directly once they get your lab results. Let your doctor know they can send the prescription to The Village Pharmacy as soon as they have the results - by fax or on PrescribeIT.

  4. Make an appointment for your lab work. You can try Life Labs, AlphaLabs, or the lab of your choice.

  5. We’ll call or text you when your prescription is ready for pick up, or ask us for free delivery.

  6. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about your PrEP medication. We can do a counselling session for you over the phone at your convenience.
