About the HPV Collection Kit, by Switch Health

What is the HPV self-test?

The HPV self-test kit screens for cervical cancer in women. It is an alternative to getting a Pap test at your doctor’s office. This test screens for high-risk genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV), including subtypes HPV 16 and 18, which account for 70% of cervical cancers. This test is not covered by OHIP.

Who can use the HPV self-test?

This kit may be for you if you:

  • you have a cervix

  • are age 25 or older

  • you’ve been sexually active, even if you are not sexually active right now

  • you’ve had sexual contact with someone who has the HPV virus

  • it’s been more than three years since your last Pap test

You can take the test even if you have had the HPV vaccine, or if you have been through menopause

This kit may not be for you if you have never had sexual intercourse, you are pregnant or three months following a pregnancy, or if you have had a total hysterectomy (including a complete removal of the cervix).
